About Me

David Figueroa-Martinez

Gracie Humaita Brown Belt Student and Instructor

I’m a Jiu-Jitsu blogger/author, student, and instructor training out of Gracie Humaita San Diego under Professor Regis Lebre.

After turning thirty in 2011, I decided to make some changes. I debated if I wanted to try my hand at boxing or some other form of martial arts. After searching what was available I found out that the college I worked for actually had Jiu-Jitsu as a Rec Class for students and staff. I knew what Jiu-Jitsu was from from watching the UFC, so I gave it a try. After a year or so of the Rec Classes, I decided to find a formal Jiu-Jitsu academy to further my studies.

After joining The Roy Harris Academy, currently known as Rebellion Academy, I received my Blue Belt under Jeff Baldwin. In 2014, I made a change and joined Gracie Humaita San Diego. Under Professor Regis Lebre I’ve earned both Purple and Brown Belts.

I’ve blogged for most of my journey, competed, and taught both adults and kids classes.
