When entering Jiu-Jitsu you can feel overwhelmed by all the techniques, feeling like your ship is taking on water and you don’t have enough fingers to plug up all the holes in your game. With my short comings something that started to help me feel more grounded was making goals, both long and short term. The short term goals as my instructor puts it will act as way-points as you navigate though the jiu jitsu terrain. An example of a short term goal would be; this week I will not be submitted by armbar or I will not allow anyone to take my back. These short term goals will also allow you to see your progress from a more measurable angle.

For 2013 and moving forward these are some of my goals. Some have nothing to do with my Jiu-Jitsu game specifically but nonetheless are personal goals of mine that I would find fulfilling. As I move through the terrain things will be added and checked off but overall this is where I see myself going. Give it a try and clean up your Jiu-Jitsu clutter.
